Channel
WeChat has 1.3 billion monthly active users in China. LINE is the dominant messaging app in Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, and Indonesia. For businesses operating in or selling to these markets, these are not optional channels. They are the primary way customers expect to communicate with a business. An email or a support portal is often not where Chinese or Japanese customers look first.
Building AI on WeChat and LINE means navigating platform-specific APIs, content policies, and account verification requirements that differ significantly from Western messaging platforms. WeChat's Official Account API is a closed ecosystem with specific message type constraints and a verification process that requires a Chinese business entity or partner. LINE's API is more accessible for international businesses but still requires an Official Account and compliance with LINE's content policies.
We have experience building on both platforms. We scope each project with an honest assessment of what the account setup requires on your end. There is no way to shortcut the platform registration, and then build the AI layer on top once access is confirmed.

Four types of WeChat and LINE AI integration, from customer service to payment-enabled product discovery.
AI-powered customer service, product discovery, and FAQ handling within WeChat Official Accounts. Users interact via WeChat menus and text messages and receive intelligent responses without leaving the app. Supports both subscription and service account configurations.
LINE's Flex Messages allow richer product cards, carousels, and interactive layouts than standard text. We build LINE chatbots that showcase products, collect enquiries, confirm appointments, and route support requests, using LINE's full message format capability rather than plain text.
Customers send a message asking about their order. The bot queries your ecommerce backend, formats order status, shipping tracking, and estimated delivery, all within WeChat or LINE, with the response in the user's language. No login required, no redirect to a website.
AI-first customer service that handles common queries in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, or Japanese, and escalates to a human agent when the question requires it, passing the full conversation transcript in the appropriate language.
WeChat and LINE both require platform account setup that must happen on your side before development can begin. We are upfront about these requirements from the first conversation.
WeChat Official Account registration
Access to the WeChat API requires a verified WeChat Official Account. For foreign companies, this requires a Chinese business entity or a local partner entity. The verification process takes 1–4 weeks and requires business documentation. We advise on the setup process but cannot apply on your behalf.
LINE Official Account registration
LINE Business requires a LINE Official Account, which is available to businesses operating in Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, and other LINE markets. Registration is straightforward compared to WeChat and can typically be completed in a few days.
Content in Chinese and Japanese
The bot can only be as useful as its knowledge base. If you are building a WeChat bot for Chinese users, you need the underlying content (product descriptions, FAQs, policies) available in Simplified or Traditional Chinese. We build the AI layer; you provide the content.
Understanding of platform content policies
WeChat enforces content restrictions that differ from Western platforms. Certain categories of financial services, legal services, and healthcare content require additional verification. We advise on what is permitted in scope during discovery.
WeChat and LINE development requires the right market presence and setup. We flag when the prerequisites are not in place.
Businesses with no presence in China, Japan, Thailand, or Taiwan
WeChat and LINE are valuable channels precisely because your customers are already there. If you have no users, customers, or market presence in East or Southeast Asia, building on these platforms is premature. We will say so during discovery rather than scope a project that generates no real usage.
Teams without Chinese or Japanese content for the bot
A WeChat bot serving Chinese users needs content in Chinese. An LLM can translate responses, but the underlying product information, policies, and FAQs need to exist in the target language for the bot to serve users accurately. We build the AI layer, your team or a localisation partner provides the content.
Foreign companies without a Chinese business entity or local partner for WeChat
WeChat Official Account access for companies without a Chinese registered entity requires a local Chinese business partner. If you do not have this in place, WeChat development cannot proceed until it is resolved. LINE is significantly easier to access for international businesses and may be the faster starting point.
